Email Inspiration: Fotolia Newsletter breaks out the box

Image stock library Fotolia might have a bit of a head start in finding great imagery for their campaigns, but nevertheless their photography is engaging and impactful. Laying up the imagery in a way that breaks out of the template also helps draw the user’s attention, and stands out against the other, more structured emails in the inbox.

the header image is striking, sure, but the rest is just directionless. there’s no sense of flow to this at all.

Fotolia needs to lear a lot about communications, specially about Online communications. With the very good exception of their spanish blog and sometimes their french blog(both are updated in a constant basis and with VERY interesting subjects) their external messages and communications are……
well, let´s say it as…not in the standard level. When you send a newsletter, you need to offer something interesting, it is not accepable that you send stupid non-sense tutorials to thousands of people that does not need to learn how to make a photo look “dirty”, for example.Fotolia is a really good stock agency to sell/buy stock images, but they really need to learn how to send good and interesting communications to their large base of users

Well this has generated some discussion!

It goes to show that an engaging hero image and a moderately well designed layout can easily fall down without well a thought out content and mailing strategy.
